During the Devonian (410-354 Ma), shallow marine environment prevailed in the Teamas-Cavan area in central NSW. It is at that time that the Murrumbidgee series was deposited in an environment that may have looked like that of the Great Barrier Reef.
The objective of this excursion is to introduce you to basic field geology techniques (mapping and cross sectioning) and basic analysis of depositional environment of carbonate rocks.
