Affiliated Centres & Programs
The School of Geosciences enjoys partnerships with several other units within the University and with organisations outside of the University. These partnerships focus on the development of rich, collaborative research programs.
Within the University the School is, alongside the School of Biological Sciences, a founding member of the University of Sydney Institute of Marine Science (USIMS). USIMS staff expertise covers a range of areas including coastal ecology, seabed dynamics, marine engineering, marine biology and the simulation and visualisation of marine processes. Our association with the Australian Mekong Resources Centre (AMRC) partners our expertise in South-East Asia development and environmental issues with our colleagues at the University's Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific (RIAP) and colleagues in partner institutions through the Mekong region. Our membership within the Spatial Sciences Innovations Unit (SSIU)) sees us share our Geographic Information Systems knowledge with archaeologists, historians and cultural heritage managers. Our work with the Earth Resources Foundation (ERF) helps promote study and research in the earth sciences, with recent activities including a major investment in the promotion of research into the causes of soil and water salinisation and options for its management.
Our associations with organisations outside of the University are just as rewarding. The School has many longstanding relationships with various industry bodies, state and federal agencies. Organisations such as Exxon Mobil, the Cooperative Research Centre for Mining Technology & Equipment (CMTE), Geoscience Australia and the Sydney Olympic Park Authority.
