Daravy comes from Cambodia; she holds an undergraduate degree in Environmental Management from Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Daravy has worked with the Cambodia Development Resource Institute for a year and a half as a Research Assistant in the Natural Resources and Environment unit. She has been working on the AusAID funded project ‘Water Resources Management Research Capacity Development Programme’.
Daravy is now doing a Master of Science (Research) on the topic of Institutional arrangements for water governance in the context of catchments in Cambodia. Agricultural development in Cambodia is an important sector which directly or indirectly impacts at least 80 percent of the Cambodian population. A number of irrigation schemes have been built so farmers can minimize the impacts of irregular rainfall, and also increase and diversify their crops. But the problem of irrigation in Cambodia is not the problem of lack of water, but rather a problem of governance. Therefore, understanding the institutional set up and the challenges of irrigation and water governance is fundamental to improving the governance of water and the success of irrigated agriculture in Cambodia.
