Research
Rowena is currently undertaking research on the participation of local people in the management of cultural World Heritage sites. In particular, she is exploring the capacity of local populations to participate in a World Heritage management process where Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are the main management instrument. The focus of her research is on the World Heritage site of Angkor in Cambodia and impacts on the neighbouring town of Siem Reap that have occurred since the inscription of the site on the World Heritage List in 1993. These issues are being explored through the application of both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
