Joanna is currently undertaking a PhD in the field of coastal geomorphology. She is investigating the behaviour of the beach and shoreface over a variety of time scales in order to improve the prediction of beach change in response to sea level rise and other disturbances. Specifically, she is using the Shoreface Translation Model to investigate the nature of the transition zone between the upper and lower shoreface. Also, she is researching the recurrence intervals for shoreline erosion, which can be used to determine building set-back limits for management purposes. Joanna has an interest in the application of non-linear systems concepts to sediment coasts.
