Cultural Competence Launch
July 19 2016
On Friday 22 July you are invited to the launch of the University’s new cultural competence online modules for all professional and academic staff. Challenge your perceptions, enhance your cultural mindfulness and join the University’s cultural competence journey.
In the 2016–20 Strategic Plan, the University committed to creating a culture built on respect, inclusion and diversity. The National Centre for Cultural Competence (NCCC) and Education Innovation team have developed a series of online modules and resources to provide staff with the opportunity to develop their understanding of cultural competence.
On Friday 22 July the University will launch these online modules and mark its commitment to cultural change at an event in MacLaurin Hall from 11am to 12pm.
"We are the first university in the world to embrace cultural competence as a community-wide commitment," said Deputy-Vice Chancellor (Indigenous Strategy and Services) Professor Shane Houston.
"In July we will stand up and say we take this seriously. We will show that cultural competence – as a student quality, as a component of our curriculum and research, as a quality of the professionalism of our staff and as an essential feature of the student experience – is part of the University of Sydney narrative."
