Climate Change Monitoring Symposium

On Friday 12 December, the University of Sydney will hold the Climate Change Monitoring Symposium to help shed light on the current state of our environment under climate change and evidence of intervention efficacy.

Along with a presentation by Senator the Hon Penny Wong, Minister for Climate Change and Water (invited), 17 top Australian climate scientists will cover a diverse range of climate change issues with particular relevance for Australians including:

  • Antarctica
  • The Great Barrier Reef
  • Coastal waters Ecosystems
  • Ocean climates
  • Our atmosphere and
  • The land-earth climate system

An important outcome of this symposium will be a publication of a book entitled Climate Change Monitoring and Strategy. Scheduled publication date is Feb/March 2009 by the University of Sydney Press. Proposed outline of the book is available for download Climate Book (PDF) (RTF)

Who should attend?
Scientists, postgraduate students and members of general public who have professional interest in topic are invited to attend the conference. There is no registration fee, however there is a limiter number seats available (250 seats).

Media such as TV stations are welcome to shot film for news footage at 9:00-9:05 am opening of the national Climate Change Monitoring symposium by Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research Prof. Merlin Crossley. This is followed by Dr. Tony Press, Director of Australian Antarctic Division presenting current state of Antarctic climate change and observation. Media can take film/camera photos any time they want as far as making minimum disturbance to the symposium. For those who are interested in interviewing speakers, please consult with Chair of the Organising Committee Dr. John You or the speaker directly to arrange a mutually suitable time before or after individual speaker’s presentation.
